The Advanced Biomedical Computing Center (ABCC), part of the Information Systems Program (ISP), provides scientific computing, modeling, imaging and bioinformatics support, engages in scientific consultation and collaboration, and offers training to scientists and staff.

The Bioinformatics Analyst IV (BA IV) will: (1) work at the Center for Cancer Research Collaborative Bioinformatics Resource supporting research and development activities to test and develop new algorithms and pipelines to be implemented for production, and (2) train scientists on the use of a variety of open-source bioinformatics tools, including programming languages. Qualifications:
Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a bioinformatics or a related field or 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible relevant experience
Working knowledge of core databases (e.g. GenBank, RefSeq, GEO) and core bioinformatics tools (e.g. BLAST, Bioconductor)
Experience with primary open source tools and pipelines used in NGS sequence analysis including aligners (e.g. BWA, Bowtie, Stampy), utilities (e.g. SAMTools, Picard-Tools) and other tools for variant calling and annotation (e.g. GATK, Varscan, Somatic Sniper, Annovar)
Experience with human genome annotation resources (e.g. genome annotation tracks of the UCSC genome browser, dbSNP, Entrez Gene, annotation data from 1000 genomes project, annotation packages of the Broad Institute) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s Degree
Extensive knowledge of bioinformatics pipelines utilized in cancer research
Programming and developer skills with the ability to optimize and adapt software for robust production use
Experience with repositories such as Git and SVN and contributing to open source
Experience developing requirements and supporting documentation for applications.
